Instructor Development Course

The Missouri Safety Center – Instructor Development Course (MSC–IDC) will qualify the participant as an instructor. Focusing on adult education principles, the course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to become successful public speakers in any setting, covering any topic.

The course is also designed to develop or improve classroom presentation skills and provide fresh ideas and techniques to enhance development and delivery of any presentation.

The primary audience for this course of instruction is any professional who desires to become an instructor or improve their instructional techniques.  The course is also appropriate for those who wish to become more adept at training others, primarily adult learners, or facilitating learning in a wide variety of settings.

Course Layout

The 40-Hour MSC–IDC is conducted over 5 consecutive days consisting of 10 instructional modules. Enrollment is typically held to 12 participants.

Course Participation

Participants will be required to prepare and deliver five presentations, several of which will be videotaped and privately critiqued. In addition, participants will experience team teaching opportunities.

POST Credit

40 hours of POST credit (20 Interpersonal and 20 Skill Development) is awarded to all full-time Missouri law enforcement officers.

POST & NHTSA

IDC provides one of the prerequisites necessary to obtain a Generalist or Specialist license through Missouri POST and is also recognized by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a requirement to become a NHTSA Instructor.

This is a no cost course for Law Enforcement and Law Enforcement Trainers. Tuition is covered by a grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation.
