Statewide Surveys

The Highway Safety and Traffic Division of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) contracts with the Missouri Safety Center to help develop, implement and analyze the Missouri seat belt observation surveys.

Taking a few moments to properly secure yourself and loved ones is the single greatest way to increase your likelihood of surviving a crash. Seat belts, car seats and helmets go a long way in minimizing the consequences of crashes regardless of why they occur.

Statewide Seat Belt Survey

Conducted annually based on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines for states receiving grant monies.

High School/Youth Seat Belt Survey

Conducted bi-annually at high schools throughout the state of Missouri.

Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Seat Belt Survey

Generally conducted bi-annually but at the direction of MoDOT.  Observations of Commercial Motor Vehicle drivers.

Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Survey

Conducted at the direction of MoDOT.  Observations of children in appropriate safety seats and restraints.
