Impaired Driving Countermeasures (IDC)

Our mission is to reduce impaired driving fatalities on Missouri roadways. Our grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation helps us focus on countermeasures to bring fatalities to zero.

The Impaired Driving Countermeasures (IDC) program includes Breath Alcohol Instrument Training, the Breath Alcohol Lab, Ignition Interlock Device (IID) program, and the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) programs.  Each program has unique features to assist law enforcement in identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

Breath Alcohol Instrument Training (BAIT)

Courses include Type III Operator, Type II Supervisor, and labs for approved instruments.

Breath Alcohol Lab Services

We can assist you with your breath alcohol instrument and simulators.

Ignition Interlock Device (IID) Program

At the present time approximately 10,000 drivers are required to install and maintain an IID on any vehicle they operate (2020).

Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST)

Training stresses the importance of a systematic, structured administration of SFSTs.

Free Missouri Ignition Interlock Training for Law Enforcement (2-Hour P.O.S.T. Course)

This two-hour course provides Missouri law enforcement officers with a comprehensive overview of the Missouri Ignition Interlock Program and its role in impaired driving enforcement. The training covers statutory requirements, installation and monitoring procedures, violations and compliance issues, and the responsibilities of offenders participating in the program.

Officers will learn how to identify ignition interlock devices in the field, recognize and document violations, understand reporting procedures, and navigate administrative and court processes related to interlock requirements. The course also addresses best practices for traffic stops involving ignition interlock participants and provides guidance on coordinating with the Missouri Department of Revenue and program vendors.

This training is designed to enhance officer knowledge, improve compliance enforcement, and support efforts to reduce impaired driving across the State of Missouri.

If your agency is interested in participating or hosting a class, please email msciid@ucmo.edu
